Estate Tax

There are two kinds of taxes owed by an estate: One on the transfer of assets from the decedent to their beneficiaries and heirs (the estate tax), and another on income generated by assets of the decedent’s estate (the income tax).

When someone dies, their assets become the property of their estate. Any income those assets generate is also part of the estate and may trigger the requirement to file an estate income tax return. Examples of assets that would generate income to the decedent’s estate include savings accounts, CDs, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and rental property.

Gift Tax Preparation

A gift tax is a tax imposed on any transfer to an individual, either directly or indirectly, where full compensation (measured in money or money's worth) is not received in return.

In the US, when a taxable gift is made by the transfer of cash, stock, real estate, tangible or intangible property, the tax is usually imposed on the donor and is required to file Form 709 for the year the gift was made.

Contact us if you need assistance with the preparation of Form 709.
